Alexandra Mena is a sought after teaching artist in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she maintains a private voice studio. She specializes in musical theatre styles in both contemporary and legit repertoire, as well as contemporary commercial styles (CCM), for high school and college students on a performance track. She has coached students for national competitions like American Idol 2014, (reached celebrity panel), and the ETTV Top Idol 2016 & 2017 (reached top 13 and top 10, respectively), and international competitions, such as the Water Cube International Vocal Competition 2017, in Beijing, where her student reached the top 30. Alexandra has also coached for Disney and Nickelodeon auditions. One of her students can be seen as Monyca in Disney's "Diary of a Future President, and heard in the voice part of Kamala in Disney's "Mira, Royal Detective".
In musical theatre, her students, 21 and under, have appeared in lead and supporting roles with:
Professional and community theatre: TheatreWorks, Berkeley Playhouse, Contra Costa Musical Theatre, Pacific Coast Repertory, Tuacahn Center for the Arts (Utah), Woodminster Summer Musicals, South Bay Musical Theatre, Stage 1 Theatre, and Ohana Arts in a new musical touring the West Coast.
Youth & School Theatre: StarStruck Theatre, Gray Studios (Los Angeles), Children's Musical Theatre of San Jose, Stars 2000, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Fremont Christian Theatre, and arts magnet programs like the Valley Christian Theatre Conservatory and the Irvington High School Theatre Conservatory.
Her students have been accepted to top summer programs like Carnegie Mellon Pre-College Drama, Tisch Summer High School Drama Residency, Pace Summer Scholars, CSSSA, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Miami Summer Music Festival, AMDA, and Broadway Artists Alliance. They have won top prizes in local competitions such as the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival, South Bay Teen Idol, Youth Focus Talent Competitions, SFBAC NATS Singing Festival, and the iPOP National Conference. Both her young and adult students have also been nominated and awarded for their work by organizations like BroadwayWorld.Com and the Theatre Bay Area Awards. Alexandra is a member of National Associaton of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and its San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, where she has served on the Board of Directors in several capacities, and as a regular adjudicator at the contemporary festivals . She is also a member of the Freelancers Union.
